GP Services

General Practitioners (GPs) play a central role in the delivery of health care to the local community.

They provide person-centred, continuing, comprehensive and coordinated whole person health care to you and your family.

ADVICE, TREATMENT & PREVENTION

  • Your GP is most likely the first point of contact in matters of personal health
  • Coordinate your care and referrals to other specialists
  • Cares for you with a whole person approach and in the context of your work, family and community
  • Care for you of all ages, both sexes, children and adults across all disease categories
  • Care for you over a period of your lifetime
  • Provides advice and education on healthcare
  • Performs legal processes such as certification of documents or provision of reports in relation to motor transport or work accidents.

The sooner a skin cancer is identified and treated, the better your chance of avoiding surgery or, in the case of a serious melanoma or other skin cancer, potential disfigurement or even death.

It is also a good idea to talk to your doctor about your level of risk and for advice on early detection. Become familiar with the look of your skin, so you pick up any changes that might suggest a skin cancer.

LOOK FOR:

  • any crusty, non-healing sores
  • small lumps that are red, pale or pearly in colour
  • new spots, freckles or any moles changing in colour, thickness or shape over a period of weeks to months (especially those dark brown to black, red or blue-black in colour).
  • If you notice any changes consult your doctor. Your doctor may perform a biopsy (remove a small sample of tissue for examination under a microscope) or refer you to a specialist if he/she suspects a skin cancer.

ADVICE, TREATMENT & PREVENTION

  • skin examinations
  • mole checking
  • pigmentation changes
  • monitoring of discolouration
  • skin biopsies
  • preventative advice
  • dermatologist referrals

The doctors have experience in managing patients with chronic disease such as asthma, coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and renal impairment.

We have registers for patients with chronic diseases which improves systematic and targeted care.

We work with patients on the prevention of chronic diseases to provide regular checks on cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure and help patients improve in these areas.

The medical centre has an excellent referral network of specialists and Allied health professionals to help with chronic disease management.

MANAGEMENT PLAN

Patients with a chronic medical condition may be able to get Medicare benefits to cover allied health services that help manage their condition.

If you have a chronic medical condition, your doctor may suggest a GP Management Plan. If you need treatment from two or more health professionals, your doctor may also put a Team Care Arrangements plan in place for you.

A GP Management Plan is a plan of action agreed between you and your GP. It identifies your health care needs, sets out the services to be provided by your GP and lists the actions that you need to take.

A Team Care Arrangements plan lets your doctor work with, and refer you to, at least two other health professionals who will provide treatment or services to you.

You may be eligible for Medicare benefits for specific allied health services if your doctor prepares both types of plans for you.

ADVICE, TREATMENT & PREVENTION

  • Cholesterol checks
  • Monitoring of glucose and blood pressure
  • GP management plans
  • Referrals to specialist care

We have a visiting General Surgeon (Dr Anurag Gupta) for the diagnosis, treatment, and provision of pre-and postoperative care for a variety of conditions (including cancer) that affect the head and neck, digestive tract, breast, abdomen, skin, soft tissues, and endocrine and vascular systems.

As people enter their 40s, it’s a great time to review their health and risk factors with their GP. This proactive step can help plan and guide future healthcare needs effectively.

A health assessment for individuals aged 45–49 is particularly valuable for the early detection of potential chronic conditions. It helps reduce the risk of illnesses later in life and includes a general health review along with relevant screening tests. The team will conduct the initial assessment and then create your personalised plan.

This indepth health assessment is key to promoting a healthier lifestyle and addressing potential health issues early. It allows you to take preventative measures to delay or prevent the onset of chronic diseases such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Mental health conditions
  • Smoking-related lung disease
